Paush Poornima is the night of the Full Moon and a very special night. This is the night when Magh Snan takes place and pilgrims bathe in the holy waters at Triveni Sangam. The Hindu festival of Makar Sankranti is celebrated every year across India. But it becomes very special at the time of the Kumbh Mela. According to the Hindu astrology and Hindu calendar, the sun enters the zodiac sign of Capricorn on January 14. Hindu scriptures tell of the huge spiritual and religious significance of Makar Sankranti. Bathing, chanting hymns, and charity, are given special importance. When the New Moon occurs on Krishna Paksha, it is the time of Mauni Amavasya. This is the last night of the Full Moon of the Magh month of the Hindu calendar. It is called as Maghi Poornima. This Full Moon is even more special than other Full Moons. By bathing in the sacred waters of Prayagraj, devotees can get salvation and fulfill their desires. The moon casts its rays into the water with enriching qualities, which is why bathing under the Full Moon is considered to be very auspicious.
Maha Shivratri is the night when the energies of Shiva and Shakti are at their highest. This is why devotees take baths in the holy rivers and chant prayers of Shiva and Shakti on the night of Maha Shivratri. Meditating, ritual fasting, and chanting prayers and mantras are particularly beneficial as they empower the mind and take it one step closer to god. Maha Shivratri is also the last day of Mahakumbh 2025.
