CM Yogi Adityanath has stressed the need to make the need to make this Mahakumbh Mela in 2025 a greener and plastic-free one. He has even called it the Green Kumbh and announced it to be environment-friendly. As part of this green initiative, the UP government will plant 3 lakh saplings and make efforts to make the Kumbh Mela polythene-free. All departments will work together to make this Kumbh Mela 2025 clean and green.
Officials have identified key areas to make them free of polythene and plastics. Yogi stressed banning single-use plastics and creating green zones. The Forest Department is all set to plant saplings on 18 main roads that lead to the city of Prayagraj. These 50,000 Saplings will be of trees like Kadamba, Neem, and Amaltash, and will be planted on both sides of the road to make them green.
This is part of the huge tree plantation drive, initiated by the Forest Department, Municipal Corporation, and Prayagraj Development Authority. They will plant 2 lakh 71 thousand tree saplings across the region to increase the green cover. Additionally, 87,000 saplings will be planted in the 20-hectare area of Saraswati Hitech City. The aim is to create vegetable blocks that consist of small and large plants.
Apart from the spread of green cover and trees, roads too, will be beautified on different themes. They will be developed in such a way that they showcase the history, spirituality, and mythology. These roads will display images and scenes from Hindu scriptures like Samudra Manthan, Descent of Ganga, etc. A single type of sapling will be used for the entire stretch of the road to lend beauty and uniformity of visual design.
The Prayagraj Mela Authority has identified 40 such roads, and preparations are being made to make them ‘smart’. These will be done by widening these roads and decorating them with different themes, lighting, decorations, depictions, illuminations, and plants. When visitors pass by these roads, they will get a glimpse of history and culture. Additionally, the Peshwai routes, from where the Akharas will pass through on their way to the bathing ghats will be decorated with similar scenes depicting Peshwai processions.
